In case of cancelation of worship due to ice or other emergencies, a notice will be posted here by 8:00 a.m. the morning of the service. If there is no notice, we WILL have worship at 9:30. Please use your own judgement, depending on where you live, if you should come out in the weather or not. We wish everyone to remain safe.
“No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.”
We extend an extravagant welcome to you. You will find an extended loving family at St. Mark United Church of Christ.
We invite you to come and share in our worship, our mission, our ministry, and our fellowship.
Rev. Teresa Higus
St. Mark United Church of Christ is located on the east side of Terre Haute at 475 S. Fruitridge Ave., near the entrance to Deming Park. We installed a “Little Free Library” on the Hudson St. side of the church for everyone in the neighborhood to use. The idea to install a Little Free Library came to a group that was studying a book about literacy as part of the United Church of Christ’s Reading Changes Lives campaign. The Little Free Library is open 24 hours a day, and it is used by many in the neighborhood.
Little Free Libraries are popping up around the country. The initial idea came from Todd Bol and Rick Brooks in 2010. Since then, thousands of these little libraries, where people are encouraged to “take a book. return a book,” have been put up in private yards, school grounds, church yards, etc. While St. Mark UCC is the official “steward” of this library, it really belongs to the neighborhood. The Free Little Library was dedicated on November 16, 2014.
